6 Things Parenting Has Taught Me about Teaching

Whether it’s helicopter parenting or parents that are impossible to get in touch with, most teachers would say that parent issues are one of the most difficult parts of their job. You want desperately to be on the same side, to both be working for the good of the child, but so many parent-teacher meetings become confrontational and antagonistic.

As a teacher, I had very little patience for how irate and rude some of the parents became. I used to become so frustrated when the principal said that I would understand parent issues more clearly when I was a parent. To some degree, though, this has been true.
